What is an aluminum RIB boat?
A rigid hull, inflatable tubes, and a welded aluminum bottom. What each part does and who the format is for.

Short answer. An aluminum RIB is a rigid inflatable boat whose hard bottom is made of aluminum instead of fiberglass. The hull gives it shape and a planing surface. The tubes around the sides give it buoyancy, stability and a soft edge against docks and other boats.
The three parts
The hull. A deep or medium V cut into the water and lets the boat plane. In aluminum it is welded from marine alloy plate, so a hard hit dents the metal instead of cracking it.
The tubes. Air chambers in Hypalon or PVC. They float the boat even when swamped, keep it flat when people stand on one side, and absorb contact at the dock.
The deck and console. Where people sit, steer and store gear. On a small RIB every inch counts, so the layout matters more than the length.
Why aluminum instead of fiberglass
Aluminum is lighter for the same strength, forgives rocks and ramps, and can be repaired by a welder. Fiberglass has a smoother finish and a quieter ride. For a small boat that gets trailered, beached and used hard, aluminum is the practical choice. We cover the full comparison in aluminum vs fiberglass.
Who it is for
Families who want a stable boat for the bay, owners who need a yacht tender, and anyone who launches at public ramps and does not want to worry about the gelcoat. The ADB 420 is a 13 ft 9 in welded aluminum RIB designed in Texas for exactly that use.
