Is a RIB a good family boat?
Short answer first, then the four things that decide it.

Short answer. Yes, for most families, with one condition: it fits the number of people you actually take out, not the number printed on the certification plate.
01 · Why it works for families
The tubes make a RIB more forgiving than a hard-sided boat at the dock and more stable at rest, which matters directly with kids aboard. The shallow-ish draft and light weight relative to length make trailering and ramp launching easier for one parent to manage alone, which is the real bottleneck in most families' boating, not the boat itself.
02 · The one condition
Certification capacity and comfortable capacity are two different numbers. A boat rated for seven under CE rules can carry seven people legally and still feel crowded for a family that wants to move around, fish, or run watersports gear. Buy for the trip you actually take most weekends, four people and a cooler, not the maximum the plate allows.
03 · What to check before buying
Ask for the inside beam between the tubes, not just overall beam, since that is the number that decides how many people actually sit without perching on a tube. Ask for the boat weight as equipped, not the base hull weight, since options add up fast. And ask what horsepower the builder recommends versus the legal maximum: the recommended figure is usually the one that keeps the boat balanced to drive, the maximum is a ceiling, not a target.
